Assembly at Eaglecrest 2019

So, every Friday, my students and I walk down to the 1st grade and I teach the kids fun songs and bring an instrument of the week. It’s my favorite 30 minutes of the entire week. Every spring, I bring my whole drum set and a couple random musician friends to teach the kids about “The Language of Music”. We introduce our instruments and then discuss the fact that style, tempo, time signature and key signature help musicians that have never met be able to play music together.

Naked Waiters at Homestead

JohnJay and I had the great pleasure of running sound for a fun ukelele group called the Naked Waiters at the Homestead Summer Concert Series. Assembly at Eaglecrest

For the last 7 years or so John Jay and I have been putting on a music assembly at Eaglecrest Elementary in Lehi. John Jay brings his drums and I bring a bass. Sometimes we’ll bring along another musician to help us out. We show the kids our instruments and teach them how they work. Then we go off on some little funk, rock riff for a while and get the kids dancing.

John Jay

John Jay has been playing drums since he got his first kit at 12 years old. He started practicing in his basement. He played Drum Set in the Lehi Jazz Band. He later formed a band called Loose Gravel. Despite only knowing two songs, Loose Gravel gained some popularity in Holland. John Jay later joined a band called Killin’ Time with Dick Covington and Jeff Hinton (Jeff later went on to form Joshua Creek… without John Jay).
